This month's regular meeting is cancelled.

WELCOME TO THE HFMS

A Forum to Exchange Furniture and Cabinet Making Design Ideas and Techniques and to Foster Excellence in Craftsmanship

President's Message:

The Halton Furniture Makers Society enters the second half of our season with a full slate of meetings scheduled for January through May 2010. Please click on Schedule to view further details.

Our January meeting on “How to Make Chairs” will be held at Humber College where Mark Paddison, Professor and Cabinetmaking Program Coordinator will demonstrate chair making and show around their new woodworking facilities.

For those seeking excellent instruction in woodworking and furniture making I can highly recommend programs at Sheridan College in Oakville and Humber College at their North Campus in Toronto. For evening courses check out Evening Courses under Programs and Courses on Sheridan’s web site or for further enquires email Peter Fleming or Rob Diemert at furniture@sheridaninstitute.ca, and check Cabinet Making Courses Continuing Education Programs at Humber College or email Mark Paddison at mark.paddison@humber.ca

Members are invited to suggest topics and encouraged to host home workshop get-togethers so please let me or Roger know of your interests. I’ll help coordinate these activities and send out meeting notices. They are a marvelous opportunity to share ideas and experiences with fellow woodworkers.

Please consider volunteering for the position of Secretary so that Bill McDiarmid will be able to step down. The primary responsibility is to prepare minutes of business meetings and to coordinate photo essays and notes on regular meetings for posting on our web site.

The need continues to grow our membership. If you have friends or neighbors interested in woodworking please invite them to our meetings. Better yet encourage them to become members. Current membership is only $50 per year.

I look forward to seeing members and meeting new ones later this month. Guests are most welcome at our meetings. Furniture making should be fun. Come on out and enjoy.

Cheers, Fred
